Dr. Ben Lowe is an economist specializing in sustainable transitions. He joined the
Sustainability Assessment team at the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures in
March 2025.With a strong interdisciplinary background in ecological and environmental
economics, natural resource management, and the circular economy, Ben’s research
focuses on tackling critical challenges in production and consumption systems,
energy efficiency, and resource sustainability—particularly at the macroeconomic
level. His expertise includes advanced analytical techniques such as Life Cycle
Analysis (LCA), Social-LCA, Input-Output Modelling, and Natural Capital Accounting.Ben has recently led initiatives to estimate rebound effects in carbon-intensive
industries and develop decarbonisation pathways as part of the EU-funded
CO2NSTRUCT project. He has also played a key role in bridging academic research
with industry applications, serving as Impact and Knowledge Exchange Lead for
Project ReTraCE, where he developed strategies to accelerate circular economy
transitions.His research is published in leading journals, reflecting a strong commitment to
producing impactful work that informs both policy and practice. Passionate about
interdisciplinary collaboration, Ben works with diverse teams to develop innovative,
real-world solutions for sustainability challenges.Ben holds a PhD in Environmental Economics and Management from the University
of Sheffield, an MBA (Distinction) also from Sheffield, and is an Associate Fellow of
the Higher Education Academy.
