Research and impact
Infrastructure and Resilience brings together interdisciplinary expertise to address critical challenges from the environment to ageing and new era of infrastructure and transport networks, from implementing and developing machine learning, physical modelling and hybrids of the two for safer and robust predictions to expanding urban systems to climate-driven challenges on physical infrastructure.
Research in this area explores how infrastructure systems perform and adapt under uncertainty from everyday demands to extreme scenarios.
Research groups and lab facilities investigate the resilience and structural health monitoring of interconnected urban infrastructure, examining how physical structures, embedded services and their socio-environmental contexts interact and respond to new materials, design, climate change, energy demands, increased loading, and material degradation.
Through advanced modelling, experimental testing, digital innovation and adaptive and active systems thinking, this work aims to support sustainable, robust and adaptable infrastructure solutions that maintain functionality and safety over the long run.
