Hette Stainer

Hette Stainer MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry - Materials Stream

When I was looking at universities, I enjoyed the idea of doing a year in industry to improve my employability but also doing a year abroad to experience new environments - so I did both. I completed my year in industry at InnoTech Alberta, a research facility in Edmonton Canada.

I am proud of being a founding member of the General Engineering course society (GEMSoc) and seeing it continue to grow after my two years as Treasurer came to an end. My Year in Industry has led a graduate role at ARUP in September 2021.

I can't wait to work with SUEZ for my final year research project and then further on their graduate scheme in 2022. With new legislation regarding emissions & sustainability in the waste industry being drafted all the time, it's a very exciting time to be a part of the Suez Energy UK process technical team.

It made sense for me to undertake a broad-based engineering course to gain as much exposure to multiple fields of engineering

Henry Rong MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry

I wanted to develop sensibilities for the technical requirements of each field while creatively drawing from each.

Leo Russell-Moore

Leo Russell-Moore MEng General Engineering with a Year in Industry- Materials Stream

I chose to specialise in Materials engineering, as this was one of the two routes into manufacturing engineering (the other being Mech Eng). Manufacturing engineering has always interested me greatly, as it is pretty general and interdisciplinary by nature, and potentially allows me to dive into sustainable materials and sustainable manufacturing, and sustainability is a particular area of passion for me.

Ben was encouraged to make his contribution to the company and in turn was able to develop his technical skills and soft skills such as cross team collaboration.

My advice to students considering EEE is to DO IT!

Mekhola Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a Year in Industry (MEng)

Mekhola chose to study EEE after an internship sparked her interest in all things electronic and electrical which has led to her position as a Graduate engineer at ARM. While at University she enjoyed a year's placement at Rolls Royce and was awarded the Frank Benson prize for her involvement in promoting STEM in outreach activities.

Saloni Hajare

I worked as a technology intern for Automation Consultants during placement

Saloni Hajare BEng Computer Systems Engineering with a Year in Industry

Saloni chose Computer Systems Engineering and has enjoyed studying biomedical design and implants. She did an industrial placement year as a technology intern at Automation Consultants in the UK.

A BEng in Sheffield has led to a DPhil in Oxford

Jianeng BEng Electronic Engineering

The world class experience Jianeng enjoyed at the University of Sheffield has enabled him to pursue his career at the University of Oxford. Jianeng joined us as an international student from China, and completed a BEng in Electronic Engineering.

The support of staff and exposure to industry helped me to plan my career path

Shijia Electronic and Communications Engineering BEng

Shijia gained a first class BEng in Electronic and Communications Engineering and chose to continue his studies at University College London studying an MSc in Finance. The exposure to industry during his time at Sheffield combined with the support from his tutors helped him to decide to pursue a career in the technology, media and telecom industry.
