Dutch Summer Schools 2025

A summer course is a great opportunity to give your language learning a boost and put the language skills you have acquired into practice with learners from all over the world.

This summer, our students can take advantage of two great opportunities: the Taalunie Zomercursus Nederlands in Gent (Belgium) and the ALCS Nederlandse Zomercursus in Sheffield.

Gent

The Taalunie Zomercursus in Gent lasts 2 weeks (3-16 August 2025) and starts at CEFR level B1+. There is a selection process and we have THREE places available for Sheffield Students on this course. This course is particularly suitable for Intermediate+ students.

Before you go, there is an online preparatory phase and participants are invited to a de-briefing in the autumn following the course. The great thing about Gent is that you can choose a pathway that suits your interests:

  • media en politiek
  • kunst en literatuur
  • zakelijk en literair vertalen
  • didactiek en taalkunde

There is a selection process (an online test) and you'll have to write a short motivation letter. This may sound daunting, but it is all very manageable. De Taalunie Zomerschool is a super course with a proven track record of enthusiastic participants. And why not spend two weeks in Ghent in summer with a great group of international students?

I can’t recommend this Summer School enough. The friends I made, the things I learnt and the confidence I built will stay with me (hopefully) forever.

The theme of the 2025 Summer School is: Baked In(gebakken). Dutch language and cultures through a culinary lense

his Summer School is open to all learners of Dutch. We offer language tuition and workshops at a level appropriate for you.

The confidence boost that I got from the ALCS Summer School cannot be overstated: after a week of making friends and spending time with other Dutch learners that were equally keen to practise, I felt so much more capable.
