Sheffield University Dental Students’ Society (SUDSS) gathered together a team of over 30 students, who roped in their friends and family to sponsor them at their Mouth Cancer 10km Awareness Walk which took place on Sunday 17 November 2024 in support of Mouth Cancer Action Month.

The students actually walked further than 10 k in a 13.5km, 4-hour scenic walk around Sheffield’s parks and trails, with the route starting from Charles Clifford Dental Hospital and taking in several picturesque sites, including Weston Park, Bole Hills, the Rivelin Valley and finishing at the Sheffield Dental School.

Charity and Sustainability Officer Mard Khoshnaw said: “The Sheffield University Dental Students’ Society (SUDSS) are extremely proud to have been able to contribute to the Mouth Cancer Walk. Our goals were not only to raise funds but also raise awareness in our community and student cohort on the impacts of mouth cancer. Taking part in the walk allowed us to bring attention to the importance of regular screening and self-checks. We also had a great day. The walk allowed our students to come together and bond over a cause we collectively find important. We would all like to thank Joss for speaking to our students at the walk and helping us raise awareness. I look forward to SUDSS continuing to build on our participation in the Mouth Cancer Walk and taking part in future fundraising events.”

The Mouth Cancer Foundation is grateful for all the awareness, support and funds our students have raised.
