I specialise in architectural history, humanities, theory and creative critical writing. Prior to my award winning PhD (UCL) and academic career, I was a practicing fully qualified architect.

My research covers the consequences of extractive projects on architecture, urbanism and landscapes, with a focus on post-colonial Africa, South Africa, and South Yorkshire.

My research interests include shantytown histories, urban informality, urban history, social housing, water and sewage infrastructure, critical environmentalisms, waste, flooding, co-design and more.

I am concerned with architecture's past, present, and future relationships with climate breakdown. I am interested in spatial production, knowledge production, and climate production.

My research and teaching lies in the search for the reinvention of the discipline of architecture from within its own traditions and transdisciplinary practices, centred on design and humanities.
