The diversity of my degree has provided me with the flexibility needed to be involved in the many different tasks that my job requires.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role or your greatest career achievement so far?

The diversity of teams I have been able to join and help. 

Thinking back to your degree how do you think it prepared you for your current role? 

The diversity of my degree has provided me with the flexibility needed to be involved in the many different tasks that my job requires. I enjoy a variety of projects all using different skills which I obtained from my time within the Materials Science and Engineering department. 

How have these skills or your course made a difference in your career?

I have been able to work easily with people from many backgrounds and apply the knowledge obtained on my degree to a variety of different projects. 

Did you do any placements or other work experience as part of your degree? 

I had a placement at Magnomatics in Sheffield. Although this experience was during lockdown it still gave me good communication skills and provided me with an insight into a smaller engineering company. 

Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?

I felt the course was better than other universities and the city felt like a second home. 

What were the best things about studying in your department?

The people were always extremely approachable and I always felt that people in the department were very passionate about their topics and were invested in ensuring students had a great experience. 

What did you like most about the City of Sheffield?

How green it was. And it's in Yorkshire!

Where do you see yourself in the future? 

Staying with my material science background, hopefully as a chartered engineer. 

If you could give advice to current students who are starting to think about their future career, what would you tell them?

Don't be afraid to ask for advice especially within the department.
