Collaboration and access

The facility provides electron microscopy and associated analysis to support researchers from both within and outside the University of Sheffield. A specialist consultancy service is also available to external commercial customers.

For University of Sheffield researchers

If you are currently a registered user of the Electron Microscopy facility, you will be able to access the facility booking system.

You can view the latest announcements and procedure updates on the Blackboard Portal.


For new researchers

University of Sheffield academics, postdoctoral or PhD researchers who wish to register to become a user of the facility can do so by submitting a new user application request.

If you are planning future projects involving electron microscopy and related techniques, expertise is available to support academics with resource allocation and costings. Please contact the Facility Manager Dr Ian Ross (i.ross@sheffield.ac.uk) to discuss your requirements.


For external academic researchers

For industrial research and consultancy

The Sorby Centre offers a range of services to external industrial clients from one-off projects to comprehensive long-term consultancy packages.

The Sorby Centre for Electron Microscopy is located in the lower ground floor of the Kroto Research Institute Building, named after Nobel Prize winning chemist and University of Sheffield alumni, Sir Harry Kroto, on the University of Sheffield North Campus Site:
