Undergraduate degrees offered by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering have also achieved top rankings in this year's league tables. In The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, our degrees, which fall under the Materials Technology category, have been ranked 4th best in the UK. In the Guardian University Guide 2024, our degree courses have been included in the General Engineering category, which is ranked 8th.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 provides the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain. The guide enables prospective students to make an informed choice about their higher education.

The Guardian University Guide has established itself as a key league table for UK universities, looking at criteria such as student satisfaction, teaching and feedback, as well as the proportion of graduates in employment or further study after graduation.

Head of Department, Professor Nicola Morley, said: "Our students have some amazing opportunities while they study with us. Access to industry-standard facilities and opportunities to engage with industry experts give them the best possible chance when entering the graduate job market. We are a tight-knit community that offers a supportive and enriching environment for our students, which I believe is reflected in these fantastic results."

The news comes just weeks after the University of Sheffield’s NSS results placed Sheffield top across the Russell Group of universities for assessment and feedback and its Students’ Union, and in the top three for learning opportunities, student voice and mental health. The University also received the highest positive responses to the survey, which asked students to give feedback on their higher education experience.

Earlier this year, the University of Sheffield’s Students’ Union was voted the Whatuni Student Choice Award 2023 for Best Students' Union, for the sixth year in a row, while the University was also nominated for the University of the Year and Student Life categories.

Professor Koen Lamberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, said: "Providing our students with an outstanding student experience is incredibly important to us at Sheffield and I am pleased that the University has been recognised for its world-class learning and teaching offer.

“Sheffield students have access to internships and placements with globally-recognised employers as part of their studies and our teaching ensures they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a competitive job market. I am proud of the difference our students go on to make when they embark upon their careers and we will continue to provide students with the leading educational experience Sheffield is known for."
