The School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering has delivered another strong performance in the UK league table, with all three of its core disciplines achieving top-five positions in the latest Guardian University Guide.
The results recognise the strength of the School’s three core disciplines, with each achieving a place among the UK’s top five:
- Biomedical Engineering achieved 2nd place in the UK, within the General Engineering category.
- Materials Science and Engineering climbed to 2nd place in the UK, within the General Engineering category.
- Chemical Engineering achieved 5th place in the UK.
Together, these results highlight the breadth and quality of education across the School and the hard work of staff and students across its three disciplines.
These are fantastic results and a real achievement for everyone across the School. Reaching the top five across all three of our core disciplines is a wonderful reflection of the hard work, commitment and dedication of our staff and students.

The Guardian University Guide is a highly respected league table for UK universities. It focuses directly on the student experience, with rankings calculated using key factors including course satisfaction, teaching quality, feedback and graduate outcomes.
These results contribute to some impressive results for the wider Faculty of Engineering at Sheffield, highlighting the University’s breadth of high-quality engineering education across a range of specialist disciplines.
