I set out to find a masters course to further my career and now I'm working in medical communication
"After my BSc I spent a year as a secondary school science teacher, but I found I was missing the excitement and the cerebral gratification of learning cutting-edge science, so I set out to find a masters course to further my career. I made a list of important factors, which I hoped would help me to find the right course. I wanted; something that would challenge me; had a broad range of modules that I could tailor to my career needs in the bioscience industry; include extensive lab experience, good leadership; and be well located geographically. I distinctly remember the course being ranked third on my list based on my own online research, but after visiting the campus and meeting Dr Hodgson in person I was no longer interested in any of the other courses."
"MSc Human and Molecular Genetics ticked all my boxes, with the core modules providing valuable insight into powerful research tools such as CRISPR and subjects such as culture adaptation. Moreover, I found the laboratory training and research aspects of the course to be a very effective learning experience, and I cannot recommend it enough. The amount of support you get from start to finish is massive and every attempt to promoting confidence and competence for independent work is provided by the team, in particular the laboratory teacher Dr Turton. The additional modules allowed me to diversify my skill set which complemented by BSc experience very well."

"What I enjoyed the most in this course was the feeling that what I was doing mattered. The sense of comprehension progress I was getting through lectures and my own reading was satisfying yes, but knowing what I was helping to create through my lab work filled me with pride. I was part of a research project to create a yeast-human hybrid that could be used to establish a new function genomics tool for "difficult to diagnose patients" born with a particular disorder that affects their ability to metabolise fatty acids. This is a very serious group of genetic disorders that disrupt peroxisome function and result in severe physical and mental disabilities. A diagnosis for these patients is often a huge relief to affected families and signifies an end to invasive testing."
"During my time researching for my project assignments and exams I became interested in the processes behind how the research I was reading was published, this led to my interest in Medical Communications (MedComms) and publication. The course provided me with valuable experiences with the presentation of scientific information through visits to congresses, viewing and creation of scientific posters and papers, and scientific writing tuition, which were immensely valuable in helping me secure my job in Envision Pharma. MedComms agencies such as Envision are used by pharmaceutical companies to disseminate complete, accurate, balanced, and timely information about medical research to support the decision making of medical professionals with the goal of improving the efficiency and quality of health care."
