Welcome to Campaigns and Alumni Relations
We're a growing team dedicated to inspiring alumni and supporters to give their time, expertise and philanthropic gifts. Read on to learn more about our work and how you can be a part of it.
Who we are and what we do
Campaigns and Alumni Relations (CAR) is the department responsible for fundraising and graduate engagement at the University of Sheffield. We raise philanthropic gifts which benefit the University in a variety of ways - from supporting students in financial need to enabling research that’s bringing about real change. We also build lifelong relationships with our 300,000 alumni through a range of impactful communications and memorable events.
Through this work, we help our graduates and supporters feel connected with Sheffield and inspire them to remain active members of the University community, no matter where they are in the world.
Join us in realising the University’s vision for philanthropy
There’s never been a better time to join us. We’re expanding the department to help increase engagement with our graduate and supporter communities. We have ambitious targets over the next few years and we need the right people to help us meet them.
You’ll be working in a collaborative environment with colleagues committed to achieving shared goals. And you’ll be supported to achieve your full potential at every stage, both within CAR and beyond. The University is renowned as a leading employer, offering a range of training, development opportunities and benefits for all staff.
Teamwork in action: CAR’s achievements
- More students than ever are receiving scholarships
We’re incredibly proud that over 900 students from low-income and under-represented backgrounds are receiving a donor-funded scholarship - and this number is growing each year. The financial support is changing lives. It’s improving access to higher education. And it’s helping students most in need stay the course once they’re here.
- Catalysing game-changing research
Our fundraising helps drive important research. From new treatments for Parkinson’s disease and gene therapy innovations to long-term ecological studies into the impact of climate change on wildlife, we’re powering work which is making a difference right across society.
- Inspiring the next generation
We connect successful alumni with students through our sector-leading alumni volunteering programme. From mentoring and masterclasses to networking events and company visits, supporting student employability in this way shows just what is possible with a Sheffield degree and helps students to thrive.

"I've worked in CAR for more than eight years in a number of different roles. I know my skills and knowledge are appreciated and I can see how the support I've had to develop hasn't only benefitted me, but the University too. The people here are some of the most ambitious and hardworking people I know. The work we do is incredibly motivating and feeds in to so many different areas of the University. There's always something new and inspiring to learn."
