Other ways to get involved all year round
Provide work-based learning
Offering a placement or internship can be a transformational experience, both for the student and for your organisation. Current students can provide a great opportunity to bring in new ideas and skills - as well as expertise from their current department - to help deliver a project at your organisation.
Tell your own story
Inspire students by sharing your story with them as an alumni case study. It could be about your time at university, or your career journey and what you learned along the way. Alumni profiles are a fantastic way for prospective and current students to visualise where their time at Sheffield may lead them.
Offer guidance and advice
Mentoring is a great way to share your experience and develop your own skills. You can offer insights into your job, the skills required and challenges you face, or advise students aiming to pursue a similar role. Communication with a mentee is by email or video call, typically once a week for 8-10 weeks.
Share a job opportunity
Whether it's part-time work, internships, placements, full-time roles or graduate-level schemes, we are always happy to share employment opportunities with our students and graduates. Click below to advertise a vacancy or email us to find out how we can support you in recruiting a placement student at employers@sheffield.ac.uk.
Unsure where to start?
All our volunteering events support students from disadvantaged or underrepresented backgrounds, ensuring your time and support goes to those who need it most. If you'd like to help, but aren't sure what your role could be, register your interest and we'll look out for suitable opportunities. Thank you!
Do a fundraising challenge
Fundraising is another fantastic way of giving back to your University, and you can be part of something amazing that has real-world impacts on some of the most deserving students at Sheffield. From scholarships to medical research, if there's a cause that's important to you, why not start your fundraising journey today?
