Description
This March, Clive Humby OBE, consumer data pioneer and Visiting Professor of Computer and Information Science is returning to Sheffield. Come along to this Sheffield Insights session to hear about his inspiring career and get your questions answered.
If you’ve ever used a Tesco Clubcard, you’ve seen Clive’s work in action. Clive co-founded, along with his wife Edwina Dunn, dunnhumby, the global consumer data powerhouse which launched the Tesco Clubcard in 1995 and fundamentally changed how the entire world understands consumer behaviour.
Clive has continued to be a major figure in the world of data science outside of dunnhumby, not least his famous coining of the phrase "Data is the new oil" in 2006, predicting the massive industrial and social shift toward data-driven innovation. Since selling his business in 2011, Clive has continued to shape the future through his advisory work and is deeply committed to the ethical use of AI and data privacy, even appearing as a character in the London and New York stage play Privacy. Clive and Edwina’s educational foundation focuses on helping young people navigate an economy transformed by AI.
