Alan Cartledge sadly passed away in June of this year. He was a former student, studying in 1974 at the age of 21 for a PhD in Chemical Engineering. His 1978 thesis was entitled "Linear Programming as Applied to Chemical Plant Simulation", a title which none of his family understood at all, but he was very proud of. Alan returned to the University in 1988 at age 35 and worked in the Department of Computing Services where his love-hate relationship with computers really began until his retirement in 2015.

Alan enjoyed playing golf with his friends and  maintained unofficial membership of the "old farts club" which was comprised of other former members of University staff.

Alan will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
