Profile

Dr Emily Lunn is a Research Associate on an NIHR School for Social Care Research-funded project focused on embedding the Sexual Rights Charter in older adult care homes, aiming to build inclusivity and upskill the workforce.

Emily’s PhD research examined how women in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities negotiate access to NHS breast screening. The study demonstrated that attending breast screening is shaped by trust, competing responsibilities, and wider social conditions, rather than simply the receipt of an invitation.

Research interests

Informed by her own experience of cancer, Emily’s research interests include cancer inequalities, screening behaviours, early diagnosis, and the experiences of marginalised populations in accessing cancer services.

As an applied researcher and cancer advocate, Emily is interested in intersectional approaches to inequality and has co-produced an award-winning tool to support more equitable access to care. She continues to work in collaboration with national VCSE organisations, Cancer Alliances, and Public Health teams to improve access to breast screening for marginalised groups, including Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities.
