The SPERI Podcast Committee is planning to produce a limited series (6-8 episodes) on the International Political Economy of Everyday Life (I-PEEL).
This follows its recent growth as a field of interest, including through work done by colleagues at University of Warwick and SPERI’s 2022 blog series. There is already interest from some experts in contributing to the series as guests. As a rough structure for the series, episodes may cover topics such as space, commodities, caring, conceptions of the economy, and (social) media. The series aims to explore how everyday sites, objects and practices can reveal wider political dynamics of the economy within which our everyday lives are embedded.
We are asking for expressions of interest to lead the production of this series. This would involve:
-
Series and episode planning
-
Identifying, inviting and liaising with guests
-
(Co-)hosting and/or producing episode recordings
-
Editing episodes
-
Contributing to promoting the series
All of these tasks would be done with support and relevant training from the SPERI Podcast Committee, in particular the ‘SPERI Presents…’ Executive Producer.
We are open to expressions of interest from those at any career stage and with any amount of experience producing digital media. However, this may be an ideal opportunity for a PGR or ECR interested in developing experience in podcast production, including using the University’s top-quality facilities.
Please email Chris Saltmarsh (csaltmarsh1@sheffield.ac.uk) with a few lines explaining why you’d like to lead the series and any early ideas. Please get in touch by 7th March 2025.
SPERI Presents… has so far published one limited series (Lessons in Power) and an episode a month as part of our regular series (New Thinking in Political Economy). Two further limited series on crisis and capitalism, and the political economy of development in South Asia are currently in production or development.
