Jaydip Ray completed his specialist training in Birmingham and undertook his PhD thesis on the Surgical, Electrophysiological and Audiological aspects of Cochlear Implantation. He also undertook fellowship training in Cambridge; Sydney University, Australia; House Ear Institute, LA and Stanford University, USA.
He joined Sheffield Teaching Hospitals as Consultant Otologist Neurotologist and Hon. Senior Clinical Lecturer in 2006. He was appointed Professor of Otology by Sheffield Hallam University in 2013 and Professor of Otology Neurotology by University of Sheffield in 2016. He is the Clinical Director for ENT and Hearing Services.
His main research interests include Management of Complex Hearing Loss and Implantable Hearing Solutions. He has been investigating the links between hearing loss and dementia. Secondary research interest includes management of Balance Disorders in the elderly. He has an active role in teaching and training and lectures widely on several national and international courses and conferences.

He has been the chief investigator on several multi-centre research projects. He is the Communications Lead for ENT Clinical Research Network of National Institute for Health Research.
