I first joined the University as an apprentice technician back in 1981 based in the Clinical Sciences Centre at the Northern General Hospital. I held a number of technical roles working for the then Head of Department Professor Donald Munro and following his retirement I worked for Professor Tony Weetman.

I became Department Manager in 2005 until the merger of the Medical School into one department and the closure of the Clinical Sciences Centre in 2006.

Following the merger I took up a role as Finance Team Lead in the Medical School and the Department Manager in the Department of Human Metabolism in 2010.

My current role is Resources and Operation Manager and I have overall responsibility, with respect to laboratory and technical services, for management and problem resolution as well as long-term strategic resource planning for the Department.

I am responsible for the technical team, laboratory facilities, equipment, space, safety and security. I also have overall responsibility for post-award research finance in the department, working closely with the department Finance Lead.
