Profile

I received my PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from Newcastle University in 2020, following which I worked in the same laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Heath Murray. During this time, I worked to further our understanding of the key process of bacterial DNA replication initiation in the model organism Bacillus subtilis and the pathogen Staphylococcus aureus

In 2024 I joined the group of Dr Thomas Darton within the Clinical Infection Research Group (CIRG) to provide microbiological experience for the ongoing work to develop models to investigate host-pathogen interactions during staphylococcus aureus carriage and infection.

Qualifications

BSc in Biological Sciences (Genetics)

Msc in Human and Molecular Genetics

PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology

Research interests

My interests are in the bacterial pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. My current work includes characterising clinically relevant strains of S. aureus, involvement in a Staph human challenge model and supporting clinical trials aimed at improving our understanding of the human immune response to staph infection.
