Profile

I am a Senior Research Fellow and Career Development Award (2020-2024) and Transition Support Award (2025-2026) holder for investigating human influences in systematic reviews and meta-analyses, funded by the UKRI Medical Research Council (MRC). I obtained my BSc and PhD in Psychology at the University of Sheffield. I joined SMPH as a systematic reviewer in January 2011 for the evidence review group, SCHARR-TAG, leading technology assessments until 2019 for interventions across a range of specialities including mental health, oncology and diagnostics. I design, lead and conduct systematic reviews including a living review of the problems with systematic reviews. I am interested in how the people, or the systematic review team, can potentially influence the output of apparently objective research projects.

As well as leading Systematic Reviewlution I am also working on the ESRC funded Behavioural Research UK project (2023-2027) and the NIHR funded Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (2024-2026).

I was invited to be an Editorial Board Member of the Journal of Clinical Epidemiology in October 2024 following my role as Guest Editor for the journal on the Special Issue "Methodological Aspects of Research Integrity and Research Culture."
