What drew you to the MSc in Psychological Research Methods at Sheffield, and how did you decide this programme was the right fit for you?

I chose the MSc in Psychological Research Methods to further develop my skills as a psychologist and a researcher. The range of modules on the MSc appealed to me, particularly the opportunity to select my own research topics for many assignments, allowing me to tailor my learning to my interests. The focus on a range of research methodologies and the development of professional skills specifically drew me to the course. 

How would you describe the teaching and learning experience on this course? 

The knowledge I gained and the range of lectures were incredibly valuable. The course has a wide range of lecturers who are experts in their fields, and a great variety of assignments which furthered the course content. Overall, the mix of theory, practical work, and well-designed assignments really improved my understanding and skills.

Are there specific modules or opportunities that stand out?

I especially enjoyed the research methods module because of the diverse range of methods it covered and the variety of perspectives brought by the different lecturers. 

What kinds of support and resources have you found most helpful as a student on this programme, both academically and personally?

I was fully supported by the university’s disability team, who implemented personalised support measures that ensured I could access and engage with the course effectively. This made a significant difference to my learning experience. Additionally, my dissertation supervisor provided exceptional guidance, sharing her knowledge and skills throughout the process.

What has been your favorite part of living and studying in Sheffield as a postgraduate student?

As a commuting student, I’ve found the University incredibly accessible, thanks to its excellent transport links. The university itself has been incredible, with its impressive buildings and state-of-the-art facilities providing a great environment for both learning and meeting new people. The campus has a welcoming atmosphere that made me feel at home right from the start.

How has this course shaped your career and future professional plans?

It has equipped me with the skills and confidence needed to apply for a PhD. The program also gave me the opportunity to explore my research interests in depth. This has helped me clarify my aspirations and prepared me to pursue a career working with and supporting individuals with ADHD.
 

What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering applying to this course? 

If you’re unsure about your specific research interests or have a wide range of topics you’re passionate about, then this could be the course for you. The course is flexible and allows you to explore different areas of psychology while developing a strong foundation in research methods.
