Tuition fee discount for September 2027 entry

As a Sheffield graduate, you’re entitled to a discount on your tuition fees.

If you've previously completed a degree with the University, or attended a Study Abroad/Erasmus programme at the University, then the discount you receive is based on the level of postgraduate study you intend to pursue:

  • Postgraduate taught courses - 20% discount on tuition fees (capped at £2,500) for September 2027 entry
  • Postgraduate research courses - 10% discount on tuition fees (capped at £1,500) for September 2027 entry

If you have previously studied at postgraduate level with us (even if you also studied at undergraduate level with us), then you are entitled to:

  • 10% discount on tuition fees (capped at £1,500) for September 2027 entry

Information relating to the Alumni Discount for current students (2026 entry and earlier) can be found on our student-facing web pages (student login required).

Eligibility

If you've previously completed a degree with the University, or attended a Study Abroad/Erasmus programme at the University, and intend to pursue further studies with us, then you're eligible to apply.

You must be starting a new postgraduate course at the University of Sheffield.

Students studying Medicine at the University who decide to intercalate on a postgraduate course with us are eligible to apply - please refer to the terms and conditions for more information about eligibility and how to apply.

Further information about the Alumni Discount can be found below.

How to apply

You apply for the Alumni Discount as part of your pre-registration tasks with the University.

You need to tick the 'UG at Sheffield' box and input your previous registration number where indicated on the financial declaration page when completing your online pre-registration tasks before you commence your postgraduate course - this is usually in August or September.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you tick this box when you complete the financial declaration.

If you previously studied with us at undergraduate level, the discount will immediately be applied to your tuition fee.

If you have previously studied at postgraduate level with us, or you are studying a postgraduate research course, the discount will not not be added straight away, but your application will be processed and you will be contacted within 10 working days with confirmation that your application has been reviewed.

If you have already completed your pre-registration tasks but believe you are eligible for the Alumni Discount, please email the Student Funding team via financialhelp@sheffield.ac.uk and you’ll be advised on how you can apply - it is your responsibility to ensure that you do this. Please include your previous registration number in this email.

If you started your course before September 2021, please contact the Student Funding team.

Terms and conditions

These terms and conditions are applicable to 2027 entry.

  • If you've previously completed a degree with the University, or attended a Study Abroad/Erasmus programme at the University, and intend to pursue further studies with us, then you're eligible to apply.
  • Courses studied at the University of Sheffield International College are not considered previous study.
  • You must be starting a new postgraduate course at the University of Sheffield.
  • The discount will be applied if you are studying a full or part-time masters, postgraduate certificate, postgraduate diploma, or postgraduate research course (including distance learning courses). CPD courses are eligible if they lead to a PGT/PGR qualification.
  • If you are studying a two-year full-time postgraduate taught course and are eligible for the discount, the discount will be applied in both years.
  • For postgraduate research students, the discount can only be awarded for each year tuition fees are paid. No discount will be issued in writing up periods.
  • The discount cannot be awarded with any other scholarships or funding from the University unless explicitly stated on the web page.
  • Students in receipt of one of the Aziz Foundation Scholarships are not eligible for the Alumni Discount.
  • The fee discount will only be applied to the self-funded part of the fee (fees paid by yourself or a family member).
  • If you are a home fee-paying student and take a postgraduate government loan (masters/doctoral) to pay your fees on an eligible course, this will be classed as self-sponsored and therefore eligible for the discount.
  • Fully or partially sponsored students are not eligible to receive the discount.
  • Integrated courses (eg MEng) are excluded from the Alumni Discount for both home fee-paying and overseas fee-paying students.
  • PGCE qualifications and postgraduate courses that attract undergraduate funding for home fee-paying students (eg full-time MArch or pre-registration healthcare courses) are excluded from the Alumni Discount for home fee-paying students.
  • Where courses attract undergraduate funding, students who are not eligible or choose not to access support from the Student Loans Company (or equivalent funding body) are not eligible to receive the discount.
  • Students who receive the Social Work Bursary from the NHS are not eligible for the Alumni Discount.
  • The fee discount is not applicable during any year(s) abroad or year(s) in industry.
  • Students studying Medicine at the University who decide to intercalate on a postgraduate course with us are eligible to apply. You will need to email the Student Funding team via financialhelp@sheffield.ac.uk and you’ll be advised on how you can apply - it is your responsibility to ensure that you do this.
  • The discount will be taken from your fees after you register online. We will need to verify your status and that the course you are studying is eligible. You'll be notified if you are ineligible and any payment you have made or arranged will be adjusted accordingly.
  • If you are awarded the Alumni Discount but subsequently become ineligible, eg if you’re awarded a University scholarship of greater value, the discount will be removed from your record and your fee payment plan will be updated.
  • If, at any point either before or after you have registered, the University finds that you were awarded the discount incorrectly, we will amend your tuition fee payments accordingly and contact you to confirm this.
  • The Alumni Discount cannot be backdated for previous academic years. It is the responsibility of students to ensure they are receiving all the funding that they are entitled to and the University will not consider any requests to backdate the discount for previous academic years.
  • This scheme replaces all fee discounts previously offered by the University to graduates and students who have attended a Study Abroad or Erasmus programme with us.
  • Please contact the Student Funding team (details below) if you started your course prior to September 2021 and think you may be eligible for the Alumni Discount.
