What does it mean to learn in a research-led University?
At the University of Sheffield, our staff and students form a community of learners, united in the pursuit of learning and knowledge creation using inquiry and evidence-based approaches.

Our staff are active researchers and that informs our curriculum
Our teaching staff are active researchers carrying out cutting-edge research into their subject areas and the best way to teach their subjects. That research informs the curriculum we offer - what our students learn, how they learn and how they are assessed.
Our students engage in research-based learning
Our students engage in research-based learning informed by world-leading and world-changing research in their subject area, using proven approaches to help their learning. They have access to professional equipment and labs as well as high quality and up-to-date libraries and learning spaces to support their learning.
Our students become researchers and contribute to the University’s research
Students learn to carry out their own research. Throughout our programmes we teach students about the key research methods in their subject area, with opportunities to get involved in and inform the research of our University. The transferable skills our students gain are highly-valued by employers.
Student feedback informs our programmes
The feedback students give us about our programme closes the loop and helps us to learn how we can continually improve our teaching.
