Everything you need to prepare for University if you’re joining in your second or third year as a new student.

Overview

If you’re an advanced entry student (a student joining in their second or third year with previous higher education experience) your journey may be slightly different to those who join in their first year.

We’re here to make sure you have everything you need for a successful start in Sheffield. 

Before you start your programme

There are a few things you need to complete before you start your course.

Register for your programme

You’ll receive emails from preregistration@sheffield.ac.uk with important online tasks to complete, including how to register for your course. 

Book your right to study appointment (international students)

If you’re an international student, you'll need to attend a ‘right to study’ appointment. 

You’ll receive an email from preregistration@sheffield.ac.uk explaining how to upload your immigration documents and book an appointment.

Check your modules

As part of the registration process, check that you’re enrolled into the correct modules for your year of study. If there are any errors, you should contact your school as soon as possible.

  • Second year modules start with a three-letter subject code followed by a 2 (eg MGT2XXX).
  • Final year modules start with a three-letter subject code followed by a 3 (eg SLW3XXX).

Check your Welcome Week timetable

Log in to iSheffield to view your Welcome Week timetable.

Check back regularly throughout September, as activities and sessions are updated frequently.

Attend your school and library introductions

School introductions

You’ll have at least one mandatory welcome meeting with your school, and an introductory meeting with your academic tutor. This will either be scheduled on your iSheffield timetable or your school will be in touch to arrange this.
 

Library induction

If you joined the University from University of Sheffield International College, your library induction session will be available to view on your Welcome Week timetable, which can be accessed via the iSheffield app.
 
For all other Year 2 and 3 students, two dedicated library induction sessions have been scheduled. You only need to attend one session. You don't need to book a place at these sessions, simply arrive at the scheduled time.

  • Date: Friday 25 September
  • Time: 10am to 11am
  • Location: The Wave, Lecture Theatre 04
