James joined the University of Sheffield in September 2025 having completed his PhD at the University in August 2025. James' thesis was an empirical analysis of the adjudicated judicial review challenges to the law and policy that implemented austerity in the UK between 2010 and 2020. James previously taught at Sheffield Hallam and Huddersfield Universities. Prior to that he was a practising solicitor (specialising in administrative law and criminal defence) and a legal director of a manufacturing company.

James' research interest are in administrative law and he is working on a book proposal following the completion of his PhD.
- Teaching activities

James teaches on the Criminal Law & Justice module in semester 1; and the Advanced Criminal Law & Justice and Advanced Administrative Law modules in semester 2.
