Profile

I am a researcher and teacher with particular interests in community supervision and the work of the probation service. I began my career as a probation officer before moving to an academic role, teaching and leading training programmes for probation staff. I completed my PhD (on the topic of the relationships between public, private and voluntary sector providers in the delivery of probation services) in 2015. Since then I have worked on a number of research projects continuing to investigate the experience of probation supervision and the role of the voluntary sector in criminal justice.

In addition to work here at Sheffield on the project ‘Probation’s evolving frontline: An oral history of probation paraprofessionals’ I am currently involved in research projects and teaching at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge.
