Arriving at your session

You will have booked to visit us 10am to 12.30pm or 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. Please arrive in good time for the start of your booked session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.

Your arrival location is:

  • The Diamond, Lecture Theatre 6 if you're attending a session in the morning of 21st February 2026.
  • The Diamond, Lecture Theatre 3 if you're attending a session in the afternoon of 21st February 2026.

You can view this on our interactive campus map, and there will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.

If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.

When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the department activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the department will be unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.

However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the department activities are running.

Activities

You'll take part in two activities related to your chosen course to give you a real taste of what it's like to be a student at Sheffield.

We run a range of activities on our applicant days and the below examples will give you an insight into what you could be doing on the day.

Welcome talk

In this introductory activity, we will tell you about History and give you an overview of our courses, the modules available to you, what you will learn and how we approach our teaching.

Careers and employability

The transferable skills you will develop as a history student will set you up for a wide range of career options. You'll hear about the options open to you and where some of our recent graduates have taken their careers.

The student experience

Hear directly from our students about their experience of studying History with us. You'll also hear about some of the exciting extra curricular projects you could take part in to enhance your time at Sheffield and build your skills.

Q&A with staff and students

We'll finish the welcome talk with time for questions. Ask our staff and students anything about studying history, the University in general or Sheffield as a city.

Sample lecture

Attend a sample lecture delivered by one of our leading academics to get a sense of what it’s really like to study History at Sheffield.

Experience our teaching

Experience a sample seminar with an academic member of staff from History, based on some of their cutting-edge research. Our teaching is research-led, which means that our staff’s expertise and research findings feed directly into our curriculum.

Refreshments with staff and students

Meet our staff and students to chat over refreshments at your home school building and get the chance to see where your lecturers and tutors are based.

Dual honours drop-in session

If you're a dual honours offer holder,  you'll have the opportunity to join a dedicated drop-in session in Jessop West foyer from 12.30-2pm. This is your chance to meet and chat with our staff teaching dual honours degrees, current dual honours students, explore your course in more detail and ask any questions.
