Nomination Process

Application Deadlines
- Semester 1 (Autumn) & Full Year: 31 May
- Semester 2 (Spring) & Reverse Full Year: 31 October
Entry Requirements
- Academic requirements
Students should have an overall average grade equivalent to a UK 2:2 (50%). Students with lower grades may be considered if there are mitigating circumstances, but please contact us before the nomination deadline to discuss. Approval from the relevant schools or faculty may be required, and lower-level modules may be assigned in some cases. Students must also meet the pre-requisites for any module they wish to take.
- English language requirements
Students from majority English-speaking countries do not need to provide an English language qualification. Others must meet a minimum requirement of IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each component) or equivalent. Some subject areas have higher requirements as stated here. For students staying for one semester on a visitor visa (not a student visa), an English language level confirmation (minimum B2 on the CEFR) at nomination stage can be accepted.
Students who will be staying for the academic year and/or those who require a student visa will need to meet the criteria for all subjects that they wish to study.
Documentation checklist for nominations
- Academic transcript
The transcript must be an official up-to-date transcript in English with the student's overall grades. The transcript must be either:
- Signed and stamped by the sending institution
- Emailed directly to us from the institution as an official document
- Or sent to us at nomination stage via email to globalopps@sheffield.ac.uk
- English language qualification
For students required to upload an English language qualification (e.g. those requiring a student visa), please see the relevant page below for accepted tests:
- Permission to take postgraduate-level modules (for undergraduate students only)
Undergraduate students who wish to take postgraduate-level modules will require a letter of support from their home institution. They may also be subject to additional checks during the application process.
Module information
Students must select 60 credits per semester (120 credits for the full academic year), with no option to take more than this limit. If a reduced load is required or permitted, please confirm this at the time of nomination via the nomination form. Please note that the minimum load is 40 credits per semester (100 credits for the year).
When completing the application, students can choose up to 60 credits per semester and will also complete a backup module form for alternate choices. If any initial selections are unavailable, we will review the backup options and work with academic schools for approval. If 60/120 credits cannot be approved from these choices, students will be contacted via email.
Please Note: Modules are provisional until registration in September or February and may change due to timetable clashes or availability issues. We recommend that students remain flexible and open to adjustments in their module choices. Specific modules cannot be guaranteed; if a particular module is essential for graduation, please contact us as early as possible to allow time for planning alternatives if needed.
Supporting your students
We offer online sessions for your students year-round, including prospective student and pre-application sessions to review our application process and answer any questions. We are also available to attend online fairs if in-person attendance isn’t possible.
To arrange a session, please contact us at globalopps@sheffield.ac.uk. Students can also book 1:1 online appointments with us before their arrival to discuss any questions related to their application or exchange experience.
