The University of Sheffield’s story is rooted in philanthropy. At the turn of the 20th Century, the people of Sheffield helped seal our university charter. 120 years on, the kindness and compassion of our community remains as significant to us today as it was back then.
Forged in Sheffield, Shaping the Future is a campaign that will celebrate and continue this culture of giving to shape a better world.
In an era defined by myriad complex challenges, the role of universities and their students - the pursuit of deeper understanding, and the design of more impactful and beneficial responses - becomes a more urgent priority by the day.
The future is both exciting and uncertain, but one thing above all is abundantly clear: it will be university-led.
By raising £250 million in philanthropic income and increasing the number of alumni and student volunteers, our supporters will help us enhance the most vital facets of university and civic life. Together, we’ll target three key aspects of this work: Student Success, Research, and our overall benefit to the City & Region we represent.
Donations to Forged in Sheffield, Shaping the Future will rapidly accelerate progress in critical areas of the University's world-leading research excellence. It will provide direct and urgent financial support to the current and future students who need it most, and give renewed impetus to projects driving regional growth and helping local communities thrive.
In addition to financial support, the campaign also seeks to expand the influence of our outstanding, highly engaged community of alumni and student volunteers. Volunteer-led projects will focus on key strategic targets for the University and South Yorkshire - widening student access and recruitment, boosting graduate employability, and expanding our industrial and commercial impact across the region.
