Energy infrastructure and integration
Changing the way we make and use energy will mean we will need new pipes and wires in different places, and smarter grids and networks which can handle the portfolio of new generation technologies.
As our energy system grows more complex, we will also need to understand how these different technologies interact and integrate with each other.
Our research includes transmission and offshore grids, energy storage devices, integration of markets, deployment of smart grids to help integrate renewable energy and allow consumers to better regulate their energy consumption, the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and heat networks.
Heat networks
For over 30 years we have played a key role in the design and expansion of one of the UK’s first and largest district heating systems - in Sheffield.
