BEIS held a global conference 28-29 November, Accelerating CCUS, where Minister of State for Energy and Clean Growth, Claire Perry, announced plans to enable the first UK carbon capture project from the mid-2020s. The event was attended by 10 global energy ministers, CEOs of major energy companies, international leaders of CCUS organisations, manufacturing businesses and finance firms, who all gathered to discuss the next crucial steps for making carbon capture technology a reality.
The conference included a showcase of British excellence in CCUS and, on a tour of the stands, Claire Perry chose to visit the PACT display and spent time with PACT Director Professor Mohamed Pourkashanian, UKCCSRC Director Professor Jon Gibbins, and researcher Dr Karen Finney.
When asked about the conversation with Claire Perry, Mohamed Pourkashanian said, "Claire Perry explained that she was already aware of the PACT facilities but was particularly interested to find out if PACT is being used by industrial, as well as by academic, research organisations because supporting industry is a priority for BEIS. I was pleased to report that the PACT facilities have been used by over 70 industrial organisations since 2013, and is fully booked for the next two years."
