About the degree

It's a course that combines mechanical and electrical engineering, well, almost.

One of the things that's interesting about ACSE is that initially, you don't always know know how the theory relates to practice. For example, you learn about probability in the maths module and wonder why it's useful, then a few weeks later you come across probability when you're working on a project, and it's like: "Ah cool, that makes sense, I didn't realise I knew that!"

Project work

One of the projects we did, a greenhouse simulator on C++, involved simulating sensors and actuators, which was really tricky. I was working hard on the coding side so it functioned correctly, and when it was complete I presented a demo and provided a project summary. Working on a project from start to finish was really satisfying and enjoyable.

A year in industry

I think the year in industry, where I will experience engineering in a real situation, is going to be really special. It's incredible learning the theory and understanding how things work, but putting that knowledge to use in real-life situations will be special. I'm also hoping the year in industry will help me figure out what I want to do in the future.
