Tell us about your current role
I work within the power department planning for the electrical requirements at events worldwide. I then travel to each race to project manage the installation at the venue. We work mostly with street circuits and there are a variety of challenges that can be faced on-site, but it is great fun and no two days are the same!
Why did you choose to study your chosen course at the University of Sheffield?
I was always good at maths and science and interested in Economics! I chose Sheffield as I loved the city and all the green outdoor space.
What was your favourite part of studying at the university/in your department? Did anything surprise you?
I loved every minute of my time in Sheffield. The lecturers were very passionate which made it easy to learn from with lots of interesting module choices. I also loved being part of Sport Sheffield clubs and committees outside of the course.
How did your time at the university shape your career path?
Although my job isn’t directly related to economics, I gained a lot of skills through my degree that have been transferable to project management and it gave me a great foundation to go into any job.
What career advice would you give future and current students of the university?
Don’t feel restricted to go into a traditional finance or economic related industry - there are so many other interesting careers too and the skills gained in an economic degree open up so many opportunities!
