Andy Haldane (BA Economics)
Former Chief Economist for the Bank of England, Haldane now serves as the ninth Chancellor of the University of Sheffield.
He is also the founder of Pro Bono Economics, a charity that provides economic expertise to the social sector. Throughout his career, he has made significant contributions to the fields of financial stability and economic policy. Hear Haldane speak about his journey.

Pierre Frank Laporte (Masters in Social Economics)
Previously Minister for Finance, Trade and Investment of the Republic of Seychelles, Laporte also served as Governor of the Central Bank of Seychelles and is known for his work on debt and growth in island economies.
He now works as a Country Director for World Bank.

Christine Jackson (BA Politics and Economics)
Jackson graduated from Sheffield with a degree in Politics and Economics before going on to become a prominent campaigner for human rights.
She worked as the Chair of the National Council for Civil Liberties (now Liberty) and The Christine Jackson Human Young Person Award is given annually in her memory.

Prof. Bitange Ndemo (PhD in Industrial Economics)
Ndemo is a global technocrat who has completed significant work in Kenyan ICT policy.
He has worked as an academic and newspaper columnist, served in the Ministry of Information and E-Communication, and was awarded the presidential Chief of the Burning Spear of Kenya award. He now works as Kenya’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the EU.

Caroline Voaden (BA French and Economics)
Prominent politician and international journalist, Voaden was the youngest female bureau chief at Reuters.
She has served as chair of the national WAY Foundation (supporting young widowers) and was a part of the team who established JustGiving. She has also sat as an MP for the European Parliament.

David Kennedy (BA in Economics and Econometrics)
Kennedy was the Founding CEO of The UK’s Committee on Climate Change, where he developed the country’s first carbon budgets and worked on key sustainability policies.
He has worked as the Director General for Economic Development at the Department for International Development and has been awarded a CBA and CB.

Prof. John Sutton (PhD in Economics)
Sir John Hicks Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics.
Sutton has taught Economics at Sheffield, Tokyo University, Harvard University and the University of Chicago. He has also worked as the president of the Royal Economic Society and is a consultant for the World Bank.

Jeremy Grantham (Undergraduate degree in Economics)
Co-founder and chief investment strategist of GMA LLC, Grantham is a well-known British investor.
He started one of the world’s first index funds in the early 1970s and went on to establish the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, forming our very own Sheffield Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures.

Sir Peter Middleton (Undergraduate degree in Economics)
Former Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, Middleton is a UK Chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies.
He previously worked as Chairman of Barclays Group, a board member of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research, and President of the British Bankers’ Association.
