The Athena Swan Charter was established and expanded to showcase the efforts made within higher education to address gender inequality, with the Bronze Award recognising success in areas such as addressing structural inequalities and ensuring robust and accountable processes.
Joanna Jenner, Departmental Manager in the Department of Economics, is the Athena Swan Co-Chair alongside Professor Aki Tsuchiya. Joanna emphasised the department’s focus on continuing to deliver equality:
We are delighted to have received an Athena Swan Bronze award. There are significant challenges in the diversity of Economics as a discipline. This award reflects the Department's commitment to work on equality, diversity and inclusion in its structures and practices.
“Our Athena Swan action plan is designed to focus on the priority areas identified during the application process and create a more inclusive environment in which all our colleagues and students can reach their full potential. We look forward to delivering on our action plan over the next 5 years"
