Webinar: NIHR Research for Patient Benefit - 21 July 2026 

The NIHR has launched a call of the Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme in July 2026 with an oral and dental health research highlight notice. The incubator and NIHR Research Support Service organised a webinar on Tuesday 21 July 2026 to support those interested in finding out more about this call.

Webinar: How to get your research published - 3 June 2026

We would like to thank Professor Sarah Baker (University of Lincoln), for presenting an informative and comprehensive overview on how to get your oral health research published. The webinar on 3 June was well attended and concluded with a great Q&A session. Professor Sarah Baker described her top ten tips for publishing including choosing the right journal, authorship, using clear structure, seeking feedback and writing for the reader.

BSODR Early Career Researchers conference - 11 March 2026

We supported seven incubator members to attend the BSODR Early Career Researchers conference in Leeds. This enabled individuals to learn from academic and industry leaders on how to succeed as a clinical academic and how to develop skills, strategies and expertise to perform impactful and collaborative digital research.

Academic Foundation Dentist Webinar Series

The incubator has collaborated with Jennie Ross (NHS England, Workforce, Training & Education) who has organised an excellent webinar series for Academic Foundation Dental Professionals. The incubator would also like to acknowledge the support of the UK Committee of Postgraduate Dental Deans and Directors (COPDEND) for the webinar series. 

The webinar programme concluded on 11 May with an excellent session on ‘Academic Career Pathways in Dentistry’ attended by over 30 Academic Foundation Dental Professionals. Insightful presentations were given by Dr Cher Farrugia (University of Bristol), Dr James Coughlan (University of Manchester), Dr Alexander Gormley (University of Bristol) and Dr Susan Bissett (Newcastle University). 

The series has helped trainees feel more confident in undertaking their own research projects as part of their foundation training, while also providing valuable insight into the many different routes into academia. Hearing from a wide range of speakers has highlighted that a career in academic dentistry is both diverse and accessible... and it has been exciting to build a supportive network of colleagues with shared interests. I look forward to following everyone’s future research and achievements.

Policy Workshop for Early Career Researchers - 15 January 2026

As part of the Office of the Chief Dental Officer Scientific Conference in Sheffield, we organised and supported 15 Early Career Researchers to attend a policy workshop. This included informative presentations on policy making in the UK and how to influence policy through research. Guidance was also given to the researchers on how they can develop networking skills to communicate effectively with policy makers.
