University of Cape Town

This week Kate O'Sullivan visited the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa to present a workshop: 'Rethinking Information Governance: Creating New Frameworks for Federation'. Kate met with Information Governance (IG), tech and data experts from UCT and the South African Government to discuss federation across the UK's four nations, and share a new framework to move towards principles-based IG, using equivalence and tolerances to enable sensitive data research within trusted research environments (TREs), also known as secure data environments (SDEs).

Kate O’Sullivan is an Associate Director at the Yorkshire & Humber SDE and the Head of Secure Data Services at the University of Sheffield. At the University of Sheffield, she is responsible for the delivery of the University’s Secure Data Services platform as well as the Data Connect service, which supports researcher access to routinely-collected health data for public benefit research.
