Theatre Collaborator Recruitment
Cripping Breath is recruiting disabled, chronically ill, and ventilated people to participate in a theatre performance.

Are you interested in theatre performance, production or design? Do you use long-term ventilation?
If you use ventilation, are based in or can travel to London, and you want to co-create, design, and/or perform a lead role in a new version of Romeo and Juliet, we’d love to hear from you!
We are currently seeking three people who use ventilators to help them breathe part- or full-time for a paid theatre and research opportunity, during which they will develop or progress professional theatre-making skills.
The development process will take place between autumn 2025 and summer 2027, when our new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet will be staged.
Adapting this play is part of our wider research project, Cripping Breath, which is exploring the experiences of people who use long-term ventilation. It will be directed by Jamie Hale, an award-winning director and Artistic Director at CRIPtic Arts. Jamie uses non-invasive ventilation overnight and part-time during the day.
The roles we’re recruiting for are:
- Romeo
- Juliet
- Design or Production Creative
Please see our recruitment Pack below for more details about the process, payment, and the project, and to find out how to apply.
