Sally graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2014 with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and subsequently joined the water engineering research group as a PhD student under the supervision of Prof Joby Boxall and Dr Richard Collins.
Her research investigated hydraulic transients and their ability to mobilise material adhered to the pipe wall of drinking water distribution systems. This has subsequent impact for maintaining drinking water quality.
In January 2019, Sally became a Research Associate working with Dr Vanessa Speight. In this role Sally is investigating intermittent water supply systems – drinking water systems that do not provide water continuously.
Daily filling and draining cycles lead to decreased water quality and quantity as well as increasing pipe deterioration. Sally is experimentally exploring this unique hydraulic behaviour with the aim of improving drinking water in the Global South.
