Description
We are delighted to be launching a series of Interfaith Dialogue Events at the University of Sheffield over the summer recess. The events will be facilitated using Scriptural Reasoning - ‘a fresh approach to modern day inter-faith dialogue which puts scripture at the heart of the conversation’ - as we reflect together on sacred texts from Islam, Judaism and Christianity. ‘Unlike some forms of inter-faith engagement, it is not about seeking agreement but rather exploring the texts and their possible interpretations across faith boundaries, and learning to ‘disagree better’. The result is often a deeper understanding of others' and one’s own scriptures, as well as the development of strong bonds across faith communities. Scriptural Reasoning is now practised globally, including in places affected by religion-related tensions and conflict.’
Please book for each event or the series so that we know numbers.
This summer themes include:
28th July Hospitality
4th August Creation
11th August Migration
18th August Water
Texts are provided and you are also welcome to bring a text directly related to the topic.
Each event will be hosted by several of the chaplains based at the Centre and is open to staff and postgraduate students, of any belief, no belief or religious commitment.
Light refreshments will be available.
We look forward to welcoming you!
‘Scriptural Reasoning is
a genuine opportunity …. to engage in inter-faith practice without undermining particularity:
here is a way to deepen one’s own faith commitment and deepen one’s engagement
with members of other faiths simultaneously.’
