MSc Biomedical Science
Sruthi chose to study the Biomedical Science MSc to really hone her lab skills and get extra experience carrying out her own research projects. During her research project, Sruthi collaborated with PhD students in the school which has inspired her to take this route in the future.

What made you want to study your course?

I've always been captivated by the intricacies of biology and how living systems function. My undergraduate degree in Biotechnology deepened my understanding of the molecular basis of these systems, and I realised the profound impact this knowledge could have on  innovative medical treatments and therapies. This made me choose Biomedical Science as the modules of the course perfectly align with my career goals. I was particularly drawn to the flexible curriculum this course offers, with an emphasis on the laboratory Research project.

What made you decide to study at the University of Sheffield?

The University of Sheffield is among the prestigious Russell Group universities, with a strong research focus and state-of-the-art facilities. The access to advanced technologies and facilities, including the Baseton Centre where I worked during my MSc project, made it an ideal choice for furthering my studies. Additionally, Sheffield's vibrant environment and friendly community were major factors in my decision.

What skills have you developed during your course?

In addition to acquiring a solid theoretical foundation in specialised subjects, I have greatly developed my laboratory skills through practical classes and projects. Engaging with the University's diverse community of students and staff has broadened my perspective and enhanced my ability to collaborate effectively across cultures. This experience has also taught me to adapt quickly to new challenges and continuously learn from feedback, contributing to my overall professional development.

What have you enjoyed most about your course?

I particularly liked the delivery of the lectures, which went beyond theoretical concepts to emphasise current and past research in the field. This approach provided valuable real-world insights and illustrated the practical implications of our studies. The most rewarding part of my experience was working on my MSc Research Project in a nurturing research-focused academic environment. Collaborating with PhD students on their projects, not only deepened my understanding of advanced research but also significantly reinforced my motivation to pursue a PhD.

What are you planning to do after your degree?

After completing my degree, I plan to work as a Research Assistant to gain additional experience and build my expertise. Further I intend to pursue a PhD in the field of Ageing and Cancer Research, where I hope to contribute to meaningful advancements and explore new solutions in these areas.
