Description
The University of Sheffield invites you to a special spoken word poetry event on Wednesday 22nd October, with proceeds going to STAMMA.
'Immmperfect Impediment: My Stammering Journey', is a captivating spoken word poetry show by Sipho Eric Ndlovu, who was formerly the Poet Laureate at the University's Faculty of Social Sciences.
Sipho has transformed his personal experience of living with a stammer into an inspiring, interactive and family-friendly performance that blends honesty, humour and powerful storytelling.
He says, "This isn't just about poetry on stage — it's about opening up conversations, breaking down the stigma around speech differences and celebrating the beauty of diverse, rhythmic voices".
Through his art, Sipho invites audiences to see vulnerability as strength. He takes what some may label an impediment and shows how it can actually become a tool for connection, creativity and resilience. Expect moving words, moments of laughter and opportunities for your own reflections as he guides us through his journey with warmth and courage.
Whether you're a poetry lover, someone who has lived with (or supported someone with) a stammer, or simply curious to experience a performance that uplifts and educates, this show is for you. It's interactive, inclusive and welcoming for all ages.
Timings: 6pm - 6:30pm for interactive activities, music and exhibition items. The performance will then take place from 6.45pm - 7:30pm.
