Profile

Kirsty Harrington is a Research Associate working within the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions at Heriot- Watt University. She is due to complete her DPhil at the University of Oxford in June 2023, where she has used laboratory experiments and geochemical modelling to investigate the impact of enhanced silicate weathering on UK riverine geochemistry. She is also interested in the natural carbon cycle, and in her recent research used riverine field sampling, historic water chemistry datasets and modelling to estimate the annual flux of atmospheric carbon dioxide removed due to natural silicate and carbonate weathering in the UK.

As part of the Greenhouse Gas Removal via Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW-DDR) Demonstrator project, Kirsty will now be exploring the feasibility of utilising waste silicate materials from industry for enhanced weathering in the UK at Heriot Watt.
