Profile

Hiya, I’m Alex, one of this year’s Student Recruitment Interns. Prior to joining the team, I worked as an Engagement Assistant at HeppSY, where I led the development and delivery of outreach presentations and workshops designed to promote higher education to students from the ages of 11-18 across South Yorkshire. Alongside this, I completed my TEFL qualification and volunteered as a Social Media Coordinator for Sparkle Sheffield, a local autism charity.

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2025 with a First-Class degree in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics. Throughout my degree, I was a Student Ambassador for the Philosophy Department, regularly delivering presentations at open days for prospective students and their parents and carers. I was also the Social Secretary for Philosophy in the City, a student-led outreach project that delivers philosophical discussions in schools and community groups.

I have a particular interest in advocating for disability inclusion and accessibility, informed by my own experience as an autistic person. During my time at the University of Sheffield, I was a Disability Champion, working with and representing the University’s DDSS team. I was also an active member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, where I reviewed existing university policies and practices to identify barriers to inclusion and accessibility.

I loved my time as a student at the University of Sheffield and am passionate about helping to make higher education more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for everyone. I am therefore really excited to be part of the Student Recruitment Team and to have the opportunity to contribute to the University!
