What's included in your postgraduate tuition fee
Postgraduate taught course tuition fees include registration, tuition, initial examinations, and access to computer facilities, libraries, the Students’ Union, Careers Service, support services, chaplaincy and much more.
Additional costs for postgraduate taught study
Your postgraduate taught fee may not include all compulsory course-related items so you could be charged separately for these. Examples include:
- Learning materials
- Mandatory books/texts where students are required to own a copy for specific sessions
- Course packs and provided course materials
- Trips and travel
- Mandatory field trips (non-residential), including equipment, consumables and transport
- Mandatory residential field trips, including accommodation and food where this is part of a residential package
- Mandatory theatre trips, including tickets and transport (if outside of Sheffield)
- Equipment and checks
- Mandatory professional accreditation exams, where the exam is a core requirement of the degree
- Mandatory protective equipment (eg lab coats, safety goggles)
- Mandatory criminal background checks (eg DBS checks) required for professional programmes
- Mandatory study aids and equipment provided by the school
- Other course requirements
- Large scale printing (larger than A3) required for course submission
- Credit provided toward specific modelling materials
- Membership of professional bodies where this is a requirement for course completion
- Personal and standard living costs
- Accommodation, general living expenses and stationary
- Personal electrical equipment (eg laptops, calculators)
- General printing/photocopying and personal copies of non-mandatory texts
- DBS update service registration
- Optional programme element costs
- Optional field trips or alternative destinations (students fund the difference in cost)
- Costs relating to optional activities (eg sheet music or instruments for optional music performance)
- Model making costs exceeding the credit provided by the school, where model making is not a mandatory requirement
- Placement, study abroad and administrative costs
- Travel, accommodation and living costs for industrial or clinical employment experience
- Costs for study abroad (eg travel, accommodation, visas, health insurance)
- Charges for resitting exams (including professional accreditation exams)
- Other administrative charges (eg replacement certificates or uCards, late registration, reassessment charges)
