Following the fantastic success of the SunbYte mission (2017), the Sheffield Space Initiative (SSI) was founded to further engage the University of Sheffield students in the science and engineering challenges involved in the exploration of space.

The Sheffield Space Initiative (SSI) aims to inspire the next generation of space engineers and scientists.

The SSI now consists of four exciting projects:

The projects work with:

  • the world’s largest professional Engineering Institution (IET)
  • UK Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (UKSEDS)
  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
  • European Space Agency (ESA)
  • UK Space Agency (UKSA)
  • Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)
  • Sheffield Engineering Leadership Academy (SELA)
  • the University of Sheffield Space Society
  • a number of Faculty of Engineering and Science departments
