To support the University’s aim of promoting open research, the Open Research Working Group (ORWG) would like to recruit a number of volunteer ‘Open Research Champions’ (ORCs) from different disciplines across the institution.

We are seeking volunteers who have an enthusiasm for open research and would like to promote the understanding and adoption of open research.

As well as supporting you to share your interest and expertise in open research with colleagues in your discipline, the role will also enable you to meet and share ideas, information and resources with other Open Research Champions across TUoS and to benefit from relevant training and support, allowing you to benefit from and share good practice.

In addition to supporting the adoption and improvement of open research practices within the University, volunteering to become an Open Research Champion can also provide evidence of academic citizenship, useful for any future job or promotion applications.

Open Research Champions will:

  • Promote and advocate for open research in their discipline and amongst other colleagues in the University
  • Disseminate information about open research to their discipline
  • Provide advice and signposting to other colleagues in the University about open research practices and support
  • Contribute to an Open Research Champion community
  • Provide feedback to the ORWG about open research requirements in their discipline
  • Attend Open Research Champion community meetings and events where possible

Open Research Champions will receive:

  • A brief induction session (likely to take place in September / October 2024)
  • A two-hour training session about open research (likely to take place in September / October 2024)
  • A short guide to the role, including signposting information to useful open research resources
  • The opportunity to meet up with other Open Research Champions at the University at community meetings held every 3 months

We would like Open Research Champions to hold the role on a voluntary basis for a one-year period if possible, with the potential to extend this if they are happy to.
