MIGREC is a three-year €800,000 research capacity building project in the field of Migration Studies at the Faculty of Political Science (FPN) of the University of Belgrade (UoB), which commenced October 2019. The project focuses on upgrading UoB staff academic capacity in order to contribute effectively to migration related research with policy impact on the rising challenges that Serbia faces today.

MIGREC will bring life to a joint, well-structured coordination and support approach designed to ensure an effective infusion of state-of-the-art research knowledge in three areas that emerge as specific challenges: integration, the migration-development nexus and migration governance. The MIGREC Project will strengthen the interface around migration related research at FPN of UoB between academic excellence, policy impact and public engagement.

FPN is leading the MIGREC consortium, which also includes the MRG at the University of Sheffield, UK, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy, Greece and the Southeast European Research Centre, Greece. MIGREC aims at upgrading migration related research excellence and impact at FPN and at coordinating already existing dispersed academic knowledge throughout the University.

The outcome of the project will be the creation of a Migration, Integration and Governance Research Centre (MIGREC), which will ensure the sustainability of Migration Studies at FPN through training, coordination and mentoring of staff and students, as well as, through the creation of a Research Strategy and Agenda and a Doctoral Studies Program.

The team from the University of Sheffield includes:

The MIGREC Project comprises 4 European partners from Serbia, Greece and the UK.  In November 2019, they come together for the official project kick-off in Belgrade.
