This is an exclusive internship open to current final year undergraduate students and final year postgraduate taught students from the University of Sheffield.
 

We are looking for someone to join us for a 70 hour internship as a Migration Research Group Intern on a part time basis. 

The Migration Research Group is an interdisciplinary academic network part of the Faculty of Social Sciences with 100 members among staff and students, and 200 external members. Through regular research seminars, workshops and discussion panels, we provide an important platform for migration scholars and practitioners in the region. The Intern will support the MRG co-directors in managing the network's infrastructure and community: updating the MRG webpage, migrating the MRG X account to another platform, putting together the MRG newsletter and providing logistics to the international MRG PGR Conference in June 2025. 
 

We expect the hours to be allocated as follows:

2 hours: Induction to the MRG and how the network operates

3 hours: Attending the MRG coordination meeting with the MRG co-directors (to develop skills on how an academic network operates) (3 meetings of one hour each)

20 hours: Email MRG members to collect information and organise it to update the MRG webpage (the MRG co-directors will use update the MRG webpage) 

15 hours: Providing logistical support to the PGRs organising the MRG PGR conference (7 hours of support before the conference and 8 hours during the conference on 20th June 2025).

20 hours: Migrate the MRG social media to another platform (the MRG has more than 11,8 followers on X, but we would like to discuss and change our social media presence)

10 hours: Putting together the MRG newsletter and sending to the MRG members

Towards the end of the internship you will be required to complete a reflective piece such as a short video, poster, or case study, about your project and experience of the programme. Guidance on this will be provided to appointed candidates.

Person specification

We are looking for candidates with: 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Time management
  • Ability to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Experience with social media and content management
     

It is desirable for the candidate to have:

 
  • Confidence in completing desk-based research
  • Interest in migration and mobility as a topic
  • Interest in working with an academic network
